First YLS Social Event of 2009 is a success!
About 40 people, both members and non-members, gathered in a private room at Solstice Kitchen and Wine Bar in Northeast Columbia on January 28, 2009.
Solstice provided six different kinds of wine guests could taste throughout the evening. Following the event, the restaurant offered dinner specials and half-price bottles of wine to those who chose to stay for a meal.
"I believe in the mission of YLS to do whatever we can to help United Way of the Midlands reach their goals," said one YLS Steering Committee Member. “YLS social events are so enjoyable because they bring people together. We can share with each other our thoughts about the community and the responsibilities of young leaders all while enjoying a few glasses of wine.”
Young Leaders
Society social events are meant to foster participation, commitment, growth and
education of members and prospective members. Meeting outside of the workplace
gives young professionals a chance to establish new, meaningful relationships
in a relaxed setting.
"It was great to see so many young professionals have a chance to mingle after work one day in a casual, laid-back environment," said one YLS member. "Plus, the wine was delicious. For my wife and I, it was just nice to get away from the kids for a couple of hours."
YLS provides opportunities like this throughout the year so be sure to check out the website and read the YLS Quarterly E-Newsletter so you won't miss out! For more information or to subscribe to the newsletter, contact Lauren Chess at lchess@uway.org or (803) 733-5447.
